PETTICOAT LANE MARKETFor some 400 years Petticoat Lane Market has been trading every Sunday in and around the streets between Bishopsgate and Aldgate. Its most central point being Middlesex Street (originally named Petticoat Lane and changed by the prudent Victorians to its present road name).Petticoat Lane is, without a doubt, the most famous street market in the UK. Attracting thousands of visitors every Sunday selling a variety of goods from leather garments to clothes to watches to jewellery to electrical goods to food. Visitors crowd the market streets from 9.30AM and don't let up until at least 3PM. There are only 2 main entrance points to Petticoat Lane Sunday Market, Middlesex Street and Goulston Street. Every Sunday come rain or shine (or snow) stalls fill the streets and covered areas transforming this rather quiet and sometimes seedy area into a hive of activity. At the Aldgate end of the market is a large, brightly lit, covered area brimming with leather goods ranging from jackets to coats to trousers and jeans. This is where wholesalers and manufacturers based in and around Brick lane and Bethnal Green Road come to sell direct to the public at bargain prices.
